Encouraging and improving library use
Your digital library gives the most value when it is the first place people in your organisation go for research. These best practices show you how to encourage and improve library use over the long term.
Make the library easy to get into
Using the library should involve as few hurdles as possible.
- Set up single sign-on with Microsoft so employees don’t need another set of credentials (an option on our custom plans)
- Without single sign-on: when you onboard new employees, make sure they also get a Librario user account
- Install Librario as a Progressive Web App on all devices
- Place links to the library prominently in your intranet and browsers
Working with IT
In mid-sized and large companies, the IT team that looks after employees’ devices can often take care of the technical setup.
Prepare content for each audience
Curate specialist literature
Actively organise your publications for different audiences:
- Set up collections for specialist teams
- Clearly mark key works and important references
- Add practical tips to publication notes
Promote new literature actively
Draw attention to new and important content regularly:
- Send a monthly “New acquisitions” email
- Present thematic focus areas
- Highlight publications that are especially useful in practice
Build the library into everyday work
- Link relevant literature directly from your wiki or Confluence and your quality management documentation
- Add literature references to process descriptions and work instructions
- Mention the library in the onboarding material for new employees
Tip for whoever runs the library
Make it a routine to spend time regularly on continuous improvement and internal marketing, for example in a fixed weekly slot. If you run the library on your own or alongside another job, set up a recurring task for it (part of advanced task management). That way the slot does not get lost in everyday work. Small, regular improvements add up to a library that is far easier to use, better known and more relevant.
