File uploads up to 5 GB on request

By default, the upload limit is 200 MB per file. That is enough for the vast majority of PDFs. We recommend keeping PDFs small so they stay quick to open for users, and optimising them for full-text search; see the best practice Optimising files for full-text search.

In special cases (for example high-resolution proceedings volumes or scanned holdings catalogues) some customers could not do this optimisation. Splitting files was a nuisance for users and counterproductive for research.

On request, support raises the upload limit for the whole account to up to 5 GB per file. The Import PDF files page then shows “unlimited” instead of “200 MB”.
