About us

# One product, one focus: your library.

A small team in Munich has been building Librario since 2013, and library software is all it builds.

Our story

## Why Librario exists

Librario has its roots in civil engineering. Our founder saw early on how much success in that field depends on a firm’s library: anyone designing a complex structure or working on an existing building often needs older specialist books as well as the current standard. They supply the principles and reasoning a calculation rests on. And these holdings are large: a mid-sized engineering firm quickly owns around 5,000 specialist publications, larger firms up to 30,000. That body of knowledge goes unused if nobody can find their way around it.

That led to a simple insight. For engineers, planners and researchers, specialist books are real working tools and deserve to be treated as such: maintained, catalogued and easy for the whole team to find.

Librario grew out of this observation and has been developed together with practitioners from the start. Two civil engineering companies, [SOFiSTiK](https://www.sofistik.com/en/) and [Tragraum Ingenieure](https://www.tragraum.de) from Nuremberg, have helped shape Librario from the very beginning. Since then it has matured through work with customer teams in other sectors, from medical technology and management consultancies to scientific societies.

The goal has stayed the same in every sector: to bring scattered literature sources together in one place, from the book on the shelf to the article in a PDF. Such a library is almost always looked after by a single person, often as one task among many. So above all, Librario has to do two things: automate the routine work, and be usable without onboarding, by that one person and the whole team alike.

Our principles

## What we stand for

-
### A focused tool

We build a library system, and we build it thoroughly. Not a bloated suite in which the library is just one module.
-
### In the browser, nothing to install

Open your browser, sign in, get to work. Nothing to install and nothing to maintain, on any device.
-
### Hosted in the EU

Your library’s application, databases and files sit in data centres within the EU. Read the details in the [Trust Center](/en/trust).
-
### Built to last

More than twelve years of continuous operation. A self-funded company with no sales pressure from investors. Your library stays reliably available.
