# Progressive Web App (PWA)

Librario is available as a Progressive Web App (PWA).
You can install it straight onto your devices without going through an app store.

## Installing on your devices

### Windows

On Windows you can install Librario as a PWA in two ways:

1. **From the address bar:**
   - Open Librario in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome
   - Click the install icon on the right of the address bar
   - Click **Install**

2. **From the browser menu:**
   - Edge: menu **… > Apps > Install this site as an app**
   - Chrome: menu **⋮ > Cast, save and share > Install page as app…**
   - Confirm the installation

You'll find detailed instructions in the [Microsoft Edge documentation](https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/install-manage-or-uninstall-apps-in-microsoft-edge-0c156575-a94a-45e4-a54f-3a84846f6113) and in [Chrome Help](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/9658361?hl=en-GB).

### macOS

On a Mac you install Librario with Safari or Chrome:

1. **Safari** (macOS Sonoma or later):

### Android

On Android devices you install Librario with Chrome:

1. Open Librario in Chrome
2. Tap the three dots (⋮) at the top right
3. Choose **Install app** (**Add to Home screen** in older Chrome versions)
4. Confirm the installation

You'll find step-by-step instructions in the [Chrome Help for Android](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/9658361?hl=en-GB).

## What is a Progressive Web App?

A Progressive Web App (PWA) combines the strengths of a website with those of a native app:

- **Quick access** from an app icon on your home screen or desktop
- **Its own window** with no address bar or tabs, for focused work
- **Briefly readable offline:** pages you opened in the last five minutes stay readable if your connection drops for a moment
- **Automatic updates** with no manual installation
- **Cross-platform:** runs on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android

## Using it across your team

Your colleagues install Librario themselves with two clicks in the browser.
IT doesn't need to roll out any software.
Updates arrive automatically, so everyone in the team always works with the latest version of Librario, whether on a desktop PC, laptop or smartphone.

The PWA runs in the browser your IT has already approved.
Nothing else gets installed on the devices.

## Limitations

Without an internet connection, Librario only shows pages you opened in the last five minutes.
Searching, editing and opening PDFs need a connection.
