# REST API v3: unknown category and organization ids answer 404

Creating or updating a publication through REST API v3 with an `id` in `categories` or `organization` that does not exist in your account answered with success, although the category or organization was not attached to the publication. A typo in the `id` only surfaced later. Such an `id` now answers 404 `RecordNotFound`, as it already did for authors and editors. API v2 is unchanged.
