# New and changed publication types

There are two new publication types:

- **Patent** (`patent`): for patent specifications
- **Periodical** (`periodical`): for individual issues of a journal or magazine

The publication type `conference` is now called **Proceedings** (`proceedings`), because that is the more common term.
